Pacific Way Comes to Pohnpei!
By Dr. Lois Englberger
A team from The Pacific Way, the flagship production of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) Regional Media Centre (RMC) based in Fiji, arrived in Pohnpei on December 11, 2006, for a ten-day visit to film a documentary for television broadcasting. The focus of the film is conservation and use of food plant genetic resources, along with dietary change and its impact on health, nutrition, and culture.
Heading this team is Larry Thomas, Coordinator of the RMC, and Joji Nabalarua, camera/editor specialist. Their visit is being coordinated by the Island Food Community of Pohnpei.
The Pacific Way is a popular television program, which goes out to twenty countries in the Pacific. Many Pacific Way programs have been shown on local television in Pohnpei (Channel 6, now Channel 20), but few film teams from the Pacific Way have been able to come here in the past, due to the great distance.
Thank you Larry and Joji for helping us promote island foods and Luigi Guarino of SPC, who helped bring this about, and thanks to all in Pohnpei involved in this project!
